Engineers bring experience from companies including Huawei and Innolight. Two years of collaborative R&D have built a foundation in chip and system development.

Professor William Shieh

Chair Professor, Westlake University
IEEE Fellow · OSA Fellow

A researcher in high-speed optical communications, with pioneering work in coherent optical OFDM and self-coherent detection. He proposed Stokes Vector Direct Detection (SVDD) in 2014.

Previously at Bell Labs and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he taught at the University of Melbourne from 2004 to 2022. He earned a PhD in Physics from the University of Southern California in 1996 and has served as General Chair of OFC and other international conferences.
